Q IS THERE A PREFERABLE TIME TO SUBMIT MY APPLICATION IN HOPES OF GAINING A SPOT ON THE ROSTER?
A There is no real cut off period in terms of time to apply as we run our programs all year around. We do however have peak periods, so the earlier you book, the better chances you have of securing a placement.
Q WHAT ARE THE AGE LIMITATIONS FOR PARTICIPATING IN VOLUNTEER SOUTH AFRICA PROJECTS?
A We have a minimum age of 16 and there’s no maximum age.
Q WHATS THE MIMIMUM STAY?
A The minimum stay at The Hearts for Orphans is 2 weeks
Q HOW DO THE ARRIVALS WORK/WHICH IS THE ARRIVAL AIRPORT?
A If arriving by air, we will be waiting for you at the Cape Town International arrivals hall.
Q ARE FLIGHTS INCLUDED?
A No
Q WHAT ARE THE FLIGHT ARRIVAL TIMES
A Arrivals should be on a Thursday.
Q DO I NEED A VISA?
A Please inquire through the South African embassy in your country.

Q WHEN DOES THE PROJECT START?
A The project starts on Thursday, where you will be met either at the airport or a pre-arranged address for your transfer to the project. You will start off with 3 Days of free orientation and a tour. The project then starts on the Monday and ends on the Sunday. If you are flying out, we will ensure your arrival at the airport in time for your departure flight. You can also elect to be transferred to any address in Cape Town at no extra cost.

A Yes, 2 airport transfers included
Q IT DOESN’T SUIT ME TO ARRIVE ON A THURSDAY
A For a nominal additional cost, of US$60 we can arrange for a special pick-up for you.
Q CAN ANYONE APPLY
A Yes, anyone can apply to join our Hearts for Orphans program (subject to being 16 and above, please refer to question 2 of this document)
Q DO YOU CATER FOR VEGETARIANS/ OTHER DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
A Yes, we can accommodate most dietary requirements, please inquire with us.
Q HOW DO I PAY FOR THE PROJECT/
A We require a US$300 deposit to secure your place and the balance 60 days before your arrival.
A We have two payment options, you can either pay via International bank – transfer/Wire (please ensure the administrative costs are at your expense) OR you can pay via a safe and secure online credit card facility
Q DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT OPTIONS?
A Yes, you are welcome to discuss them with us.
Q IS THERE A BEST TIME OF THE YEAR TO GO?
A We are lucky to have incredible weather in Cape Town. Our winters are from May to August. We have beautiful warm days, blue skies, no rain – with an average temperate of about 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit). Evenings can be cool where you would require a warm jumper
Our summers range from September to March. The days can be quite warm – around 31 degrees celcius (88 degrees Fahrenheit), the afternoons have a chance of spectacular thunderstorms which only last about an hour.
Q WHAT INSURANCE COMPANY IS OFTEN USED FOR THIS TYPE OF TRIP?
A We offer insurance – please indicate that you require insurance on your online application form. You should be covered for travel insurance in general; this covers any medical costs etc
Q WOULD I NEED ANY VACCINATIONS /ANTI-MALARIA MEDICATION.?
A You do not require any vaccinations
Q ARE THERE ANY MEDICAL FACILITIES ON SITE TO DEAL WITH SERIOUS ISSUES QUICKLY?
A We have a private hospital within 25 minutes of the project.
