LIVING WITH Sharks Volunteer Program

Program Overview

This unique experience allows volunteers to immerse themselves in a true marine environment at the southernmost tip of Africa. Work alongside marine biologists and researchers to continue to gain insights into several species of sharks. Throughout their time, volunteers will have several opportunities to go out to sea to fish, tag, observe and better understand these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

On weekends, volunteers will have an opportunity to participate in a swimming with great white sharks excursion!

Your Role

Work side by side marine biologists to assist with the research, education and outreach of sharks. This program is focused on biology and ecology and aims to better understand the role that sharks play in the oceans ecosystem by combining field and lab based research on more than 50 sharks, skate and ray.

Volunteers will learn about scientific research techniques, shark biology, ecotourism, shark management, permitting and marine conservation. Gain hands on experience by fishing sharks and collecting and entering data and assisting with educating the local community about sharks and the vital role they play in the ecosystem.
